I hope to teach a fifth grade class. At this age, the students are old enough to use the internet and know the basic fundamentals of common technology. I could use data collection surveys to help personalize my class/teaching to what they want. For example, I could have the students vote on what books they would prefer to read, or I could see what subjects the students like the most. Additionally, the parents of my students could participate in data collection surveys as well. I could ask them questions about concerns they may have with their child's learning, or how they think the class could be improved.
One of my favorite assignments this semester was the website creation assignment. I thought it was fun to create and personalize it. I really enjoyed seeing the websites my peers created. I also thought it was interesting at the beginning of the semester to see my classmates' previous experience with technology and comparing it to my experience. It really showed how students' opportunities can vary based upon school location, funding, etc. Lastly, I enjoyed all the discussion the class had about adaptive technologies. My peers mentioned tools that I had never even heard of. It really showed me how much our society is developing to help those who are not able-bodied.
I would really like to learn how to use video-editing software. In high school, I had projects that required this skill, and I unfortunately did not know how. I think knowing how to edit video is a very practical skill that students should be taught more often. In order to learn this skill, I would look up tutorial-type videos online. I would also experiment with the software just to see how it works and what features it has.
